Le persone dietro al packaging

Faces and expertise: how the team turns a need into a solution

When we look at a bottle, we see a shape. When we look at a closure, we see a detail. But behind that shape and that detail, there is much more. There are questions, discussions, tests, skills, insights and, above all, people.

Because in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food packaging, an effective solution rarely stems from a single insight. It is born from the encounter of people observing the same problem from different perspectives. Perhaps this is precisely one of the most interesting aspects of our work at ALCE, of our Italian identity, and of “Made in Italy.”

Behind a request, a project, a sample, or a new opportunity, there are people like Andrea, Enrico, Matteo, and Fulvio, to name just a few. These are names, of course, but above all, they are people with different experiences, sensibilities, and ways of looking at the same sector. It is precisely this diversity that, day after day, helps turn a need into a solution.

From need to solution

A project can start with a seemingly very simple request: “We are looking for a more functional solution,” “We need something more distinctive,” or even “We need to find a different way to approach the closure.”

From that moment, a journey begins. First, we listen, then we ask questions. We try to go further, to see what is truly behind the request, because often the client is not simply asking for a bottle or a closure—they are looking for a way to solve a need.

And that is when different skills come into play. There are those who know materials and processes, and those who look at functionality. There are those who think about ergonomics and user experience, and those who evaluate industrial feasibility, or those who focus on customization and project identity. There are those who verify, check, challenge, and propose alternatives, and those who, simply after years of experience, have learned to recognize a problem even before it is fully explained.

This is the part of packaging that is normally invisible. The final result may look like a simple bottle, a closure, or a dispensing system. But that simplicity is often the result of many conversations, many tests, and a few inevitable rounds of “let’s try doing it differently.”

The value is in the connections

In primary packaging—whether cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or for home fragrances—the container and the closure are not isolated elements. They must dialogue with the content, the filling process, the user, the brand’s goals, and market demands.

A seemingly minimal variation can have major consequences. A different geometry can change ergonomics. A choice of material can affect compatibility; a modification can improve an experience or create a completely different one; a lighter solution can require a total rethink of the process.

That is why the true value is not just in the final component. It lies in the people’s ability to connect all these elements. It is in the phone call where an idea is born, in the meeting where someone asks a question no one had asked yet, in the sample that arrives and is not fully convincing, in the comparison of two viewpoints, and often in asking “why don’t we try it this way?”. No less important, it is also in making mistakes. A competent team is one that knows how to learn quickly from what does not work and applies that lesson to avoid it, or at least manages to recognize—and anticipate—the mistake before it happens.

Sustainability is also a matter of people

Today, talking about sustainability in packaging means going beyond the simple choice of a material. It means questioning the entire system, from the simple and mundane, yet always effective: “Can we reduce the weight/material used?” to the more complex: “Can we make the packaging more efficient without compromising functionality, safety, and experience?”

These are questions that almost never have a single answer. They require discussion, experience, plenty of curiosity, and the ability to “connect the dots” thanks to diverse skills. For this reason, sustainability is not just an intrinsic characteristic of packaging; it is also a design competence and, even before that, an attitude of the people who design it.

Fifty years of experience is not just a date

For a company that has spanned over half a century of history—to be exact, we have been on the market for 56 years—experience should not be considered simply as a number. This is often overlooked in favor of the usual window-dressing of super prices or mega discounts.

Experience is made of people who have seen the market change, of clients with ever-new needs, of technologies that have opened up new possibilities, and of mistakes that have taught something—that something that is passed from one person to another and creates lasting relationships. This is what makes a company truly “human”: not just what it produces, but above all what it is able to transfer.

In the end, what are we really buying?

When a company chooses a packaging solution, it is not just buying glass, plastic, metal, a closure, or a dropper: it is buying experience, listening capability, technical knowledge, reliability, flexibility, and all the added value of every single person on the ALCE team. Above all, it is buying the ability to turn a still-undefined need into something concrete.

That is why we believe there is a different way to talk about and experience packaging: through people and human value, which make what we see possible, and not just through what we see.

Andrea, Enrico, Davide, Matteo, Fulvio, and all the other people who, inside and around ALCE, contribute every day to moving a project forward. Behind every bottle, every closure that works on the first gesture, and every solution that feels simply “right,” there is almost always a team that asked many questions before finding the answer.

Packaging is the result, skills are what make it possible. People are what give meaning to both.
